Our Learning Journey

Below you will find out about our learning journey this term.

Please click on any document links for extra learning.

Phonics

The children will begin their phonics journey by developing the ability to attend to and distinguish between both environmental and speech sounds. This provides the basis for the development of spoken language and early literacy.

The children will be focusing on listening and hearing sounds in the environment.

The aim of this aspect is to raise children's awareness of the sounds around them and to develop their listening skills.

Phonics develops your child's ability to listen to, make, explore and talk about sounds. Throughout their learning, the children will develop their speaking and listening skills and these will be explored and developed through fun games, songs and activities.

Maths

During our Maths sessions, the children have enjoyed learning about colours, with the help of the colour monsters. They have taken part in a range of fun activities designed to develop their colour recognition. They have also been sorting and matching by colour and exploring patterns.

Children enjoy taking part in singing nursery rhymes and songs linked to the themes that we are exploring. They also sing songs to help them to establish the routines of the day.

Squiggle Whilst you Wiggle

A child's brain must control over 25 muscles in the body to write one word! Before a child writes words it must be able to speak and also its brain must have strong muscle control. Mark making assists handwriting and created much needed movement for the brain to learn to control the body. Squiggle whilst you wiggle targets gross motor movements and is so much fun!
